CAROLINA BEACH — According to the town of Carolina Beach, its lake dredge and stabilization project has started.
The dredge will improve stormwater capacity and increase water quality, while providing a healthier ecosystem and improving aesthetics of the lake. Officials have said the goal is to keep park amenities open during the dredge, as most construction will happen on the water side of the lake's path.

"Contractors will use hydraulic dredging to fill geotextile tubes placed around the perimeter of the lake to create a stable and natural shoreline," according to the town. "All dredge spoils are to be utilized onsite."
Detours will be set up as needed and safety fencing has been installed. A laydown area for equipment will be on the west side of the lake at S. 4th and Clarendon avenues. If needed, a secondary area could be utilized on the west side of the parking lot.
Precautions are being taken as well by crews to ensure the nesting waterfowl are safe.
